OTTAWA - Brock Beukeboom scored once and added an assist as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds continued their perfect start to the Ontario Hockey League season with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa 67's.
James Livingston, on the power play, and Carson Dubchak also scored for the Greyhounds, who improved to 5-0 for the 2009-10 campaign after finishing last overall a season ago.
Swedish import Robin Lehner, a second-round selection of the Ottawa Senators in June's NHL entry draft (46th overall), allowed a goal to Ottawa's Ryan Martindale on the 67's first shot of the game just 44 seconds in, then settled down the rest of the way, finishing with 31 saves with Senators' scouts in attendance.
"Going 5-0 after finishing last overall is a little bit more than expected," said Greyhounds coach Denny Lambert, a former member of the Senators. "You want to win every game, right? And the one thing that's given us that opportunity is the goaltending and the defence."
Finnish import Matias Sointu scored his first OHL goal and Czech rookie Petr Mrazek finished with 21 saves at the other end for Ottawa (1-2-1-0).
A fight erupted midway through the third period when Ottawa's Tyler Toffoli went after Vern Cooper of the Soo for a hit on 67's defenceman Marc-Anthony Zanetti. The Soo's T.J. Battani, who suffered a badly cut hand in the ensuing melee, was given a game misconduct for intervening.
